Contra Costa Co. Sheriff's 'Citizen's Academy' Now Registering
The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to a traditional police academy.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — For those who want to know more about the inner workings of policing, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for its Fall 2019 Citizen's Academy that begins Sept. 11 and runs through Nov. 6. The academy provides community members with an inside look at the sheriff's office, its mission, duties, responsibilities and services.
During the eight-week course, students will be exposed to a variety of law enforcement topics, procedures and operations, such as patrol, investigations, custody, coroner, dispatch and search and rescue. The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to a traditional police academy, but are not designed to train students to become peace officers.
Classes are taught by law enforcement professionals and are designed to be hands-on and interactive. Students are encouraged to ask questions, participate and interact with the sheriff's office during the classes.
