Criminal(s) using Master Post Office Key(s) to Steal Mail
Increased Lighting and Surveillance around Cluster (Grouped) Mail Boxes Could Be Considered by Homeowner's Associations

A San Ramon Post Office Supervisor and a Police Officer reported to me that unauthorized individual(s) are using Post Office Master Mail Box Keys in San Ramon residential neighborhoods and businesses to open clusters (banks) of locked mail boxes and steal the contents. The Post Office reported that prior to October, there was only one master key for all locked cluster boxes in the city; however, the Post Office stated that it is eventually planning to issue one master key for each zip code in the city. A group of about 50 mail boxes was most recently opened and robbed of all mail and packages in Twin Creeks West with an unlawful master key. The Police Officer suggested that Homeowners' associations consider increased lighting and surveillance near locked clustered mail boxes to help reduce this risk of loss.
