Dougherty Valley Ranked 3rd Best HS In Bay Area, 19th In CA: U.S. News

The school received high marks in college readiness, subject proficiency, graduation rates, and more.

SAN RAMON, CA- Dougherty Valley High School is the third best high school in the Bay Area, the 19th best in California, and 153rd best in the United States, according to the 2023-24 U.S. News and World Report Best High School Rankings.

The score is based on, among other factors:

  • How many students have taken at least one AP Exam (77%)
  • How many have passed at least one AP Exam (74%)
  • How many students are proficient in mathematics according to state assessments (88%)
  • How many students are deemed proficient in reading according to state assessments (96%)
  • How many students are deemed proficient in science according to state assessments (74%)
  • Graduation rate (98%)

"This is an exceptional accomplishment for our school community. I am incredibly proud of our students and their academic accomplishments,” DVHS Principal Evan Powell said in a statement. “Our remarkable students work hard every day to make our school community as great as it is. I also commend our hardworking staff for aligning curriculum with the content and skills necessary to prepare students for their future. Dougherty Valley was the top-ranked school in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. In second place was Monte Vista High School (87th in California, overall score of 96.6), followed by California High School (205th in California, overall score of 92.59), followed by San Ramon Valley High School (252nd in California, overall score of 90.42).

It is also the highest-ranked in the Tri-Valley. Nearby, Foothill High School ranked 60th in California, with an overall score of 97.62. Amador Valley High School ranked 73rd in California, with an overall score of 97.27. Dublin High School ranked 129th in California, with an overall score of 95.12.

Mission San Jose High School in Fremont ranked best in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oxford Academy in Cypress was ranked as the best in California, and the Early College at Guilford in Greensboro, North Carolina was ranked best in the United States.
