Dougherty Valley Students Attend Junior Achievement Summit In D.C.

SAN RAMON, CA — Five students from Dougherty Valley High School will attend the 2022 Junior Achievement Summit in Washington, D.C. Sunday to represent a company they founded.

Nine students from DVHS and one student from California High School created “Embracelet,” a stress reduction bracelet company. Each “embracelet” is an adjustable double strand nylon satin cord that holds eight beads. The beads contain inspirational, handwritten notes.

The bracelets are designed to help fidgeting students, and encourage them during difficult times. The students also created a website that provides several mental health resources, including an online journal, a daily motivational messaging system, a relaxing music playlist and links to mental health websites. Fifteen percent of website proceeds are donated to the Global Mental Health Outreach Program.

The students (Krish Bala, Sadhana Tadepalli, Shreya Balasubramaniam, Anushka Julakanti, Satvika Bommadevera, Sriram Kudumala, David Huang, Rex Raffield, Haaris Wasti, and Akshara Chintarevula) met at the Junior Achievement program, which where they were challenged to start a company. The team won a JA NorCal Social Innovation Award, Best Commercial Award, and second place at a regional tournament.

“Within a bracelet you can tell your story, be yourself and ultimately reduce your stress and we really want to give that to the community,” CEO Krish Bala told the Wildcat Tribune.
