Dublin San Ramon Services District Honored for Recycled Water Use
The City of Dublin partners with the Dublin San Ramon Services District to provide environmentally friendly water resource options.
From Dublin San Ramon Services District: Water recycling experts and advocates from across California honored the City of Dublin for using recycled water in nearly all city parks and street medians and for partnering with Dublin San Ramon Services District in requiring land developers to install recycled water irrigation. DSRSD, which provides water service in Dublin, nominated the city as Recycled Water Customer of the Year, an award given annually by WateReuse California to organizations that significantly advance the use of recycled water. Mayor David Haubert accepted the award at a ceremony in San Diego.
“More than 20 years ago, Dublin’s leaders recognized their general plan could not be realized without recycled water,” says DSRSD Board President Richard Halket. “The city’s strong support for DSRSD’s recycled water program has helped diversify the region’s water supply and permanently reduce demand for imported water.”
In 2016, more than 90 percent of the water used for Dublin’s municipal operations was recycled water. Dublin also has worked closely with DSRSD in requiring developers to install purple recycled water distribution pipes in new Dublin developments since 1993 and in retrofitting irrigation in established areas of the city since 2012. As a result, recycled water irrigation has spread citywide, not only at parks, sports grounds, street medians, and the civic center, but also at schools, shopping centers, apartment complexes, business parks, churches, and homeowner association common areas.
