San Ramon Company Makes 2020 Fortune 500 List
The annual Fortune 500 list ranks the top revenue-generating companies in the United States. Five Tri-Valley companies made the cut.
SAN RAMON, CA — Fortune Magazine has released its annual list of the 500 top companies in America, and San Ramon-based Chevron ranked in the top 20.
While San Ramon-based Cooper didn't make the top 500, it did come in 848th place with $2.7 billion in annual revenue.
Fortune ranks companies by total annual revenue and, for the eighth consecutive year, Walmart topped the 2020 list, followed by Amazon and Exxon Mobil. Apple and CVS Health ranked No. 4 and No. 5, rounding out the top five spots on the list.

To put the rankings in context, the 500 companies on the 2020 list make up two-thirds of the total U.S. gross domestic product.
The 500 companies employ 29.2 million people worldwide.

These Tri-Valley companies made the Fortune 500 list:
- 15: Chevron, San Ramon: $146.5 billion
- 202: Ross Stores, Dublin: $16 billion
These companies didn't make the top 500, but were still ranked:
- 657: TriNet Group, Dublin: $3.9 billion
- 676: Workday, Pleasanton: $3.6 billion
- 848: Cooper, San Ramon: $2.7 billion
