The San Ramon 11-12 year-old Little League All-Star team put together a fifth of July fireworks display Monday evening at Osage Park in the District 57 tournament.
After going scoreless in the first inning, San Ramon struck for a pair of runs in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth en route to an 11-0, 10-run rule win over Pleasanton American.
"This team has been together for three years and there are no bad families here," San Ramon coach Dave Jew said.
With the victory, San Ramon improves to 3-0 in the 13-team, double-elimination tournament. San Ramon advances to the championship game where it will face the winner today's matchup in the losers' bracket between Pleasanton American and defending district champion Danville.
The luxury of Monday's win for San Ramon is that it will have a day of rest and have to be beaten twice to get eliminated from the highly-competitive tournament. San Ramon will resume play Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Osage Park.
"This game was ultra important," Jew said. "Those are a couple of good teams in the losers' bracket."
San Ramon struck for a pair or runs in the second after an error, a couple of wild pitches, an RBI single by Rocky Moore and an RBI groundout by Jack Gerlach for a 2-0 lead.
But it was the third where San Ramon really broke the game open. With two runs plated and a 3-0 lead, No. 7 hitter Moore delivered a no-ball, one-strike smash over the center-field fence to give his team a 7-0 lead.
It was Moore's first home run in all-star play and only the second of the season.
"I thought it was over his head and then I heard my teammates cheering," Moore said. "With this team, we always cheer for each other."
Moore finished the evening with a 2 for 2 effort, four RBIs and two runs scored.
He was one of three San Ramon players with a multi-hit game. Teammate Michael Pangelinian went 2 for 3 and scored a pair of runs. Jakey Ackerman also went 2 for 3 and scored two runs.
The game came to an end in the fourth inning with one out. San Ramon had a 9-0 lead when Matt Ramirez hit a two-run homer to right field that gave it an 11-0 advantage. Ramirez had two RBIs and scored two runs.
Ackerman started on the mound for San Ramon and went three innings and was dominant. With his fastball popping the catcher's mit, Ackerman allowed two hits, walked no batters and struck out two. He was pulled so he could be available for Wednesday's game if necessary.
"Jake threw gas today," Jew said. "We didn't want to pull him, but we have to save him for big games. If we didn't put up those runs in the third, we wouldn't have pulled him."
