San Ramon, Ca: 12 and 16 year old children of San Ramon just returned from their successful expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. As a part of his journey, Arnav Patel, 16 year old student of California High School and Senior Patrol Leader of San Ramon's Boy Scout Troop 84 also successfully raised funds to aid National Wildlife Federation’s commitment to protect America’s wildlife and its habitat.
About this recent successful trip to Africa, Arnav Patel on behalf of the group of nine who summited the mountain said, “We all made it through extremely difficult task of Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro at 19,341 ft elevation. I am specially proud of my 12 year old brother and 15 year old friend who also accomplished this uphill battle. On our trip, we got to hike through many vegetation zones including a rainforest, a home of hundreds of different plants and animals. We were lucky to experience the amazing beauty of our planet Earth. I couldn't thank enough to all the generous donors. With the money raised, National Wildlife Federation will be able to restore and protect remaining habitats of the world.”
Arnav pledged to raise $4835, which amounts to 25 cents for every foot of elevation their group had climbed. You can find out more about this cause and donate to his efforts at his page: https://www.crowdrise.com/climbing-kilimanjaro-for-a-cause/fundraiser/arnavpatel3

About the expedition: Arnav and Anuj Patel, students of San Ramon Valley Unified School District along with their parents, Hema Patel, a general dentist of Lafayette and Dharmesh Patel, director of product marketing at Energeous Corp, hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro as a family. Both the children in the family are vegetarians and strongly believe that plant based diet if consumed with variety of sources, could give a person enough energy needed for optimum athletic performance. On the contrary of popular carnivores mountaineers diet, their diet on the trek consisted pasta and rice along with sauces made from local vegetables and beans. A small group of Tri Valley friends joined them in this trek, everyone successfully made it to the Uhuru Peak on the early morning of June 16th and returned home safely.
