Madison Dee Earns Eagle Scout Award

Eagle Scout project benefits Livermore's Marilyn Avenue School

Madison Dee has qualified to become an Eagle Scout, her Court of Honor has not yet been scheduled. She is the daughter of Man Yin Leung and Alvin Dee of San Ramon. She is a member of Troop 2998 sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6298 of Pleasanton. She is appreciative for the leadership and support of her scoutmaster, Michael Lennox.

Madison has been an active leader in her troop, serving as Patrol Leader, Librarian and Web Master. She likes being outdoors and going on adventures such as hiking, camping and water activities. Socializing and having the opportunity to meet new people is especially enjoyable.

Making new friends is an important part of the scouting adventure.

For her Eagle project, Madison built benches for the Marilyn Avenue Elementary School in Livermore, making the garden more enjoyable for all students, especially the Special Education Class. Eagle scout projects are required to learn leadership skills and give back to the community.

Madison is a senior at Dougherty Valley High School, she is interested in sports, science, books, and music. She has held leadership positions in several school clubs such as American Cancer Society and Future Medical Specialist. She loves to volunteer with TOP Soccer and Fertile Groundworks. Having an interest in healthcare, she participated in several programs to help research problems in different fields of medicine. She also has been playing soccer for 7 years and is currently in the San Ramon Futbol Club (soccer).

She is applying to colleges and hoping to attend one of the University of California schools pursuing a career in healthcare or biology.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in their troop, provide leadership, earn 21 merit badges including the areas of citizenship, camping, communications, cooking and lifesaving or emergency preparedness as well as demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They must also plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project benefiting a religious institution, school or community group.
