Man Enters Grueling Competition To Raise Thousands Of Dollars For San Ramon, Danville Schools

Just when Jason Brown thinks he cannot eat any more broccoli or do one more pull-up, he remembers why he took this challenge.

DANVILLE, CA — A Tri-Valley man who has broken his back three times, and will likely soon need shoulder surgery, has committed to getting into the best shape of his life in order to help raise thousands of dollars for schools in San Ramon and Danville. Jason Brown, a Tri-Valley mortgage broker who founded the educational nonprofit SaveCASchools.org in 2004, entered a Men’s Physique Competition earlier this year and will compete on May 13.

In order to get ready for the competition, Brown had to get his 6-foot-5-inch frame down to 5 percent body fat and a mere 215 pounds years after he was told he might be lucky to just to be able to walk. Brown credits his ability to work through his many injuries to his trainer Rob Bumgarner at Iron Horse Fitness Trainers Club in Danville.

Brown says his grueling training regimen has given him a newfound respect for bodybuilders and anyone who has ever tried to diet. Brown, who has given up desserts, measures every meal and works out seven days a week, says had he known how difficult this journey would be, he is not sure if he would’ve tackled it. Brown has dropped 40 pounds and refers to his yoga days as a “rest day.” His big splurge when he is allowed to snack is peanut butter.

Brown has documented his surreal journey on Facebook and created the Shape Up Your Schools GoFundMe page to help garner additional donations. He hopes to inspire others to get fit and help local schools. Brown says 100 percent of donations raised will go to the California school of the donor’s choice. Click here to donate.

SaveCASchools is currently partnering with San Ramon Valley Education Foundation to help fund Imagineering, a beyond school enrichment program in STEM for grades 3-12. The concept is simple: expose children to science, technology, engineering and math principles early in a fun, hands-on, low-risk environment, which can lead to a STEM pathway and successful career in the 21st century. Follow Brown’s journey on Facebook.
