Need Sandbags, San Ramon? Here's Where To Get 'Em

Worried about flooding at your home or business in Contra Costa County? Bring a shovel, but the bags and sand are free.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – As rains are expected Friday and Saturday in the Bay Area, Contra Costa County officials announced that sandbags are available at numerous locations in the region.

Officials posted a full list available online at http://www.contracosta.ca.gov/5976/Sandbags.

"If you're concerned about flooding at your home or business when the rainy season hits, you can visit one of the sandbag stations located throughout the county," county officials said. "Please note that you'll need to bring a shovel, but bags and sand are available for free. If you live within the boundaries of one of our 19 cities, please use the link below to find information about your city's sandbag distribution."

Nearby sandbag stations include locations in Walnut Creek and Martinez.

Government agencies throughout the Bay Area are doing their part to get ready for heavy rains expected Friday and Saturday, brought to the California coast by a phenomenon known as an "atmospheric river." The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in the North Bay and the Santa Cruz mountains running from this evening to sometime Saturday morning. There's also a slight chance of thunderstorms tonight and
Friday morning.

Localized flooding has been predicted in the North Bay, South Bay and in San Francisco, where utility workers are setting up temporary flood barriers to protect properties in low-laying areas of the city.
