New Principal Takes Over At Dougherty Valley
Former Assistant Principal Lauren Falkner is now principal, while Evan Powell is now Director of Classified Human Resources.

SAN RAMON, CA — Dougherty Valley High School Principal Evan Powell is leaving his post as principal to serve as SRVUSD’s Director of Classified Human Resources, according to an email that Superintendent John Malloy wrote to families. Former Assistant Principal Lauren Falkner is now DVHS principal, effective Thursday.
Falkner has been with SRVUSD since 2014, when she started as a biology teacher at California High School. She has served as DVHS assistant principal since 2019, though she stepped away in 2022-23 to serve as the district’s Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction, and returned as assistant principal in fall 2023. Before 2019, she was the assistant principal at Charlotte Wood Middle School, in additions to several positions like summer school principal, teacher induction program mentor, science instructional coach, and administrative teacher on special assignment
Falkner has also taught science in Dublin and Fairfield. She holds a BS in Molecular Biology and an MA in teaching from the University of Connecticut.

“She is an experienced educational leader with a strong commitment to academic excellence, social-emotional wellness, student-connectedness, and parent engagement,” Malloy wrote.
Powell has been with SRVUSD for more than 16 years. He has been at DVHS for four years, and has also served as a middle school principal, high school assistant principal, athletic director, and PE teacher at the district.

“Mr. Powell’s new role is a testament to his leadership qualities and dedication to the students, families, and staff of SRVUSD,” Malloy wrote.
