Hang up if you get a call asking for your bank account information or donations for the police department.
SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon Police Department is alerting residents to an old Bay Area phone scam that has recently resurfaced in San Ramon. Several residents reported getting phone calls from suspects trying to get their personal information, social security number, bank account numbers, and donations for police officers. In one case, the caller identified himself as the police chief, police said.
Local government agencies do not call to solicit funds from residents. Residents are advised to hang up and avoid giving out any personal information.
