San Ramon City Council To Discuss Campaign Contribution Limits
Ahead of elections, the San Ramon City Council will determine whether to limit campaign contributions.

SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon City Council will discuss implementing its own campaign contribution limits at a special meeting Tuesday night.
California's AB 571 went into effect Jan. 1, 2021, setting default campaign contribution limits of $4,900 per door per municipal election in jurisdictions that don't have their own limits. That amount will be adjusted for inflation by the state during odd-numbered years.
With elections approaching, many cities and counties are discussing whether to go with state limits or impose their own.

San Ramon city staff is asking the council for direction. If the city imposes its own limits, then it becomes responsible for enforcing those limits, something for which the staff would also need direction.
Prior to AB 571, San Ramon didn't impose contribution limits for city elections.
