SAN RAMON, CA - The San Ramon City Council will consider a proposal to rezone a 4.4-acre commercial site to build 61 townhouse units in 10 three-story buildings. Fifteen percent of the townhouses are slated to be priced below market rate.

The project was approved by the Planning Commission on Dec. 8, following three public hearings. Another public hearing is scheduled for Feb. 28, when the Council could approve the ordinance changing the zoning.

The site, located on Deerwood Drive between Bollinger Canyon and Deerwood roads, currently holds a 51,000-square–foot office building that would have to be demolished. Developer Trumark Homes is requesting an amendment to the city’s General Plan to rezone part of the area as residential, and the undevelopable part of the site as open space.

Trumark also plans to remove 53 out of 116 trees on the project site, 19 of which are protected oak trees under the City of San Ramon Tree Preservation and Protection Ordinance.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. at City Hall on 7000 Bollinger Canyon Road. The meeting will also be livestreamed at the city’s YouTube page.
