San Ramon Councilmember Running For State Senate
Marisol Rubio is vying to represent District 9.

SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon Councilmember Marisol Rubio is running to represent California’s newly-formed Senate District 9, which includes most of central, eastern and northern Contra Costa County, plus a portion of northern Dublin.
Most of District 9 is currently represented by Steve Glazer, who announced in August that he does not plan to run for reelection next year. Assemblymember Tim Grayson (D-Concord) has also announced that he is running for the senate seat.
Rubio was elected to the San Ramon City Council in 2022, while she was serving her first term on the Dublin San Ramon Services District Board of Directors. On her campaign website, she promised constituents that she will be a “tenacious and dedicated representative in Sacramento” who will advocate for statewide universal healthcare, a “green economy” to address climate change, reproductive choice, and solutions to homelessness that include higher wages and more affordable housing.

Rubio cites the story of her daughter, who was diagnosed with brain cancer at a young age, as the start of her activism. “Marisol [became] an advocate for her child when medical and educational systems were unresponsive. Because of her determination, Marisol’s daughter is now a long-term survivor and college student,” according to her website.
She is the founder of FemTruth Youth, a Danville nonprofit advocating for reproductive choice and education, and an executive committee member of the Sierra Club of California. She earned a degree in molecular and cell biology from UC Berkeley.
