San Ramon Eagle Scout Helps Design, Build Bench At Memorial Park
Preston Traeger worked with city staff to design, budget, and install an observation bench and retaining wall at Memorial Park BMX track.
SAN RAMON, CA — A San Ramon Eagle Scout imagined and installed an observation bench at the Memorial Park BMX track, which will allow families to watch their children ride bikes. Over two years, Trager helped design and build the bench, wall, and concrete slab as part of his Eagle Project.
Preston Trager, now 17, began working with staff from the Parks and Community Services Department and Public Works Department in 2020 to submit a proposal to add a retaining wall, concrete slab, and bench that complied with city standards, the city said in a social media post.
Trager worked with staff to identify a location, provide a budget, and construction timeline. The city of San Ramon agreed to provide a park bench at the end of the project. Trager worked with friends to dig out a spot to place the concrete slab, set a stone retaining wall, and drill set screws on the bench to fasten it to the slab. He also worked with Public Works staff to add an access gate in front of the bench.
