San Ramon Girl heads to Washington DC as a National Finalist

Local girl wins Giants Team Championship and gets invited to National Finalist competition at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

On Monday, July 2, 2018, Mylia Perez of San Ramon, CA was announced as a Finalist for the Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, & Run Program for the 3rd year in a row. In 2016, Mylia was the runner-up in the Softball Division 9-10 year olds at Petco Park in San Diego. In 2017, Mylia won the National Championship in the Softball Division 9-10 year olds at Marlins Park in Miami, FL. This year, she will be competing in the Softball Division 11-12 year olds at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. on Monday, July 16.

Beginning in March, more than more than 625,000 youth participated in more than 4,500 competitions in either the baseball or softball divisions throughout the United States and Canada. Team championships were hosted at each of the 30 MLB ballparks between the end of May and late June. Mylia advanced through Local and Sectional competitions to make it to the Giants Championship on Sunday, June 3, 2018. Mylia won the Giants Team Championship and earned a shot as a National Finalist. Finalists are selected by having a top three score amongst all 30 MLB Team Champions.

The Scotts MLB Pitch, Hit & Run National Finals competition is scheduled for Monday, July 16th at 12:45 p.m. (EDT), prior to Gatorade All-Star Workout Day and the T-Mobile Home Run Derby. The list of 24 Finals competitors includes the top three baseball and softball participants from four age divisions (7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14).

The finalists will attend various All-Star Week activities, including GEICO All-Star FanFest at the Walter E. Convention Center (July 13th-17th), All-Star Sunday featuring the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game (July 15th) and Gatorade All-Star Workout Day featuring the T-Mobile Home Run Derby (July 16th)

Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, & Run Program is the "Official Youth Skills Competition of Major League Baseball" where youth are invited to demonstrate their skills in pitching, hitting, and running in baseball or softball.

Mylia is 11 years-old and will be entering the 7th grade this fall. She is the youngest child of Lloyd Perez and Annalyn Perez. She plays softball with the 12A Lady Hustle program through Lady Hustle Fastpitch. This fall, the team moves to 14A. Tryouts for Lady Hustle 14U will be the weekend of August 11-12.
