Construction of the Iron Horse Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing at Bollinger Canyon Road has begun. The work includes bridge construction, grading, paving, landscape, lighting, traffic signal work, crosswalk removal, and median improvements.

Beginning the week of July 31, the following construction impacts are expected:

  • Installation of a long-term lane closure on Bollinger Canyon Road around a portion of the median in front of City Hall, to build the center tower of the overcrossing. One lane on each side of the median on Bollinger Canyon Road will be closed. The left turn lane into City Hall will not be impacted; the left turn lane into Bishop Ranch 1 East will be closed.
  • Intermittent daily lane closures on Bollinger Canyon Road from Alcosta Boulevard to Camino Ramon.
  • Construction zone speed limit reduction to 30 mph
  • Closure of the north side of the Iron Horse trail adjacent to Bollinger Canyon Road for the duration of the project; a pedestrian/bike detour will be in place. (At a later date, closure of the south side of the Iron Horse trail adjacent to Bollinger Canyon Road will also be implemented; a pedestrian/bike detour will be in place.)

Please use caution when traveling through the construction zone.

PG&E Gas Line Testing in Process

PG&E has begun gas line testing via their In‐Line Inspection (ILI) Station within the Dougherty Road right‐of‐way south of Old Ranch Road, using testing equipment at the staging site on Alcosta Boulevard (across the street from Devil Mountain Nursery).

Testing began on Wednesday, July 12. The overall testing operation duration is expected to be approximately one month, and will take place on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The site for gas line testing equipment (Enclosed Combustion Devices, or ECDs) at Alcosta Boulevard will be used on a temporary basis for testing every 5–7 years. The ECDs will only be present during testing, and will be removed when not in use. No permanent structures are planned for the site.

Once the testing is complete, PG&E will decommission the operation, which will include removal of the ECDs, site restoration, fence repair, long-term erosion control, and construction of a permanent driveway entrance, prior to October 1, 2023.

Planned I-680 Southbound Lane Closure
Now–August

Caltrans will be closing the right-most lane of southbound Interstate 680 at various locations and times between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and State Route 84 in Sunol for tree removal through approximately late August 2023.

The closures will take place during the day between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

According to Caltrans, the closures are necessary in order to provide sufficient space for workers to safely remove trees and vegetation in advance of the construction of the southbound Interstate 680 express lane and pavement rehabilitation project.

Caltrans is aware of the inconvenience and impacts the lane closures present to the traveling public, and thanks the public for their patience as Caltrans works to improve travel on I-680. Every effort will be made to minimize impacts, however, please expect temporary inconvenience, noise and dust during construction.

Signage and California Highway Patrol officers will be on hand to guide motorists. Please drive safely and slow for the Cone Zone for the safety of Caltrans workers and other motorists.
