San Ramon Officers Safe After Possible Fentanyl Exposure

Two officers likely exposed to fentanyl during a vehicle check were released from the hospital, SRPD said.

SAN RAMON, CA — Two San Ramon police officers hospitalized Wednesday for possible fentanyl exposure were released after four hours, according to the San Ramon Police Department.

The officers were conducting a vehicle search of a driver who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel at around 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Safeway at Diablo Plaza. Officers located suspected fentanyl, and a loaded, unserialized gun, according to an update provided by SRPD Chief Denton Carlson.

Officers began to feel the effects of the suspected fentanyl, including elevated heart rates, dizziness, and weakness, Carlson said. They were transported to San Ramon Regional Medical Center, and released after about four hours of observation.
