San Ramon Police Impersonated In Scam Calls, Police Say
Caller ID displays the police department's headquarters, but scammers are on the line, police said.
SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon Police Department is sounding the alarm about several scam calls placed Monday targeting residents.
Police said the Caller ID showed the police department's number (925-973-2700) and the caller identified themselves as Lt. Pratt, Chief Pratt or Officer Carlson, police said. The caller said the resident had to pay a $5,000 fine immediately to avoid jail time after ignoring a subpoena and being found in contempt of court.
Police said they will never contact residents over the phone to request payment or discuss outstanding fines.
