San Ramon Public Safety Hub Opens, Fire Training Center Breaks Ground
Local leaders gathered to break ground for a firefighter training center, and a renovated Public Safety Facility for police and fire.

SAN RAMON, CA — Local leaders gathered for the groundbreaking of the South County Training Center, a state-of-the art training center for firefighters. They also celebrated the opening of a newly-renovated Public Safety Facility at 2401 Crow Canyon Road housing fire administration, the San Ramon Police Department, an emergency operations center, and a 911 emergency call center. The new facilities are a collaboration between the San Ramon Fire Protection District, the San Ramon Police Department, and the City of San Ramon.
The new regional fire tower will include features like a multi-story training tower for high-rise fire simulations, a water reclamation area, roof props for ventilation training, specialized areas for technical rescue training, and classroom facilities. The facilities will allow firefighters to train for all scenarios without having to leave the community.
“Training is the foundation for our firefighters,” SRVFPD Chief Paige Meyer said during the groundbreaking. “This will challenge our firefighters and give them experiences they will face here.”

The training center was partially funded by Measure X, Contra Costa’s half-cent sales tax.
The new San Ramon Public Safety Facility is a building that used to serve police and government offices that was remodeled to include the fire department and other features. It will serve as hub for public safety in the San Ramon Valley It will feature San Ramon Valley Fire administration offices, San Ramon Police Department headquarters, and a newly-constructed primary Public Safety Answering Point 911 center for emergency dispatch, and an emergency operations center for coordinated responses during a large-scale event. The building was also built to withstand a significant earthquake.
