SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon residents and businesses have until Thursday, Sept. 1 to register existing alarms, per a new city ordinance.

The city is launching a new alarm registration system to eliminate police responses to false alarms. The city said that San Ramon police officers respond to anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 false alarms each year.

All residents and businesses with alarms must obtain a free permit valid from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of each year. Annual renewal is required.
