San Ramon Schools Win Big At Sandia Regional Science Bowl

The Sandia Regional Science Bowls test students' mastery of science, technology, engineering, and math.

From San Ramon Schools: San Ramon, California, has a lot to celebrate after Windemere Ranch Middle School and Dougherty Valley High School emerged victorious at the 2018 Sandia National Laboratories Regional Science Bowls.

The Sandia Regional Science Bowls, two all-day competitions held at Las Positas College in Livermore, test students’ mastery of science, technology, engineering, and math. Just like in Jeopardy, teams of students must buzz in answers to questions given to them by Science Bowl volunteer officials. At no point can parents or coaches help them. During the entire day, students must rely on their collective knowledge to win.

Each competition begins with 24 student teams who face off in a round-robin tournament. The highest scoring teams from the round robin matches continue to compete in a double-elimination tournament until one team is left standing.
