San Ramon Searching For Next Poet Laureate

The Poet Laureate is a two-year position dedicated to advancing literary appreciation in the community.

SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon is a beautiful place, and sometimes only poetry can capture that. The city is searching for its next Poet Laureate, who will work to advance appreciation of the literary arts in San Ramon and the greater region.

The Poet Laureate is a two-year volunteer position that will create and read poetry at various civic events, and serve as a resource and liaison between the city’s cultural arts programming, Arts Advisory Committee, and local literary organizations. They may also conduct poetry workshops.

Candidates must be 18 or older, and live or work in San Ramon. They should be the author of published poetry, or willing to publish poetry during their term. They must also be comfortable sharing their poetry on the city website, and with the community at large.

Applications are available here, and due by Sept. 12. Interviews will be held Sept. 25. For more information, attend an informational meeting led by current Poet Laureate Jenyth Jo on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Dougherty Station Community Arts Center.
