SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Board of Directors appointed Jonas Aguiar, the district’s former deputy chief, as its new chief, effective Jan. 8.

Aguiar replaces former Chief Paige Meyer, who retired Jan. 7 after 12 years as chief and treasurer and more than 30 years of experience in fire service and public safety. He joined SRVFPD in 2005, and was eventually promoted to deputy fire chief, where he managed a $65 million budget and provided executive oversight of training, communications, and emergency medical services.

“Jonas Aguiar is an exceptional leader and a person of great integrity,” former Chief Meyer said in a statement. “I am incredibly proud of him and confident in his ability to lead this organization forward. We have worked closely together for many years, and I look forward to the continued success of the District under his leadership.”
