San Ramon Valley Teens Face Off To Create PSA For Traffic Safety

Filmmakers will receive awards for best plot, editing and use of special effects, and judge's choice as part of the Street Smarts program.

SAN RAMON VALLEY, CA — San Ramon Valley middle and high schoolers will compete Friday for the best minute-long traffic safety PSA, as part of the Street Smarts "Be Reel" contest. PSAs are meant to reflect the theme: stay alert and don't get hurt.

An awards ceremony will be held on Jan. 24 at the Danville Village Theatre and Art Gallery (233 Front St.), with doors opening at 6:20 p.m. and the ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a screening of all finalists' videos. Awards will be given for the best plot, best editing, best use of special effects. A judge's choice award will also be announced.

The San Ramon Valley Street Smarts program was created in 2004 after three San Ramon Valley kids were killed in two traffic incidents, according to its website. The program is a partnership between San Ramon, Danville, Contra Costa County, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and more.
