SAN RAMON, CA — A popular San Ramon brewery has permanently closed. Schubros Brewery in San Ramon shuttered at the end of May when their lease expired. Owner Ian Schuster said the brewery, which poured its first beer on Father’s Day in 2012, closed in May.

"We regret that we were forced to close and we appreciate our customer’s support throughout the years," Schuster told Patch.

Although Schuster says they will not reopen in San Ramon, he did confirm that they are trying to see if they can raise funds to eventually open elsewhere. He asks Schubros fans to keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.

In nearby Danville, Chow, a restaurant popular with locals for their American comfort food, closed in May. Chow shuttered just a few weeks after the owner of Don Jose's in Alamo announced that they would be closing their doors after almost thirty years of business. Owner Jose Guillen Avelar said it took him months to finally make the difficult decision to sell the popular eatery.

The new owners will remodel the dining room and reopen under the name El Maguey, which refers to the leaves of an agave plant, according to Guillen Avelar. The new Mexican restaurant will feature a new menu with new dishes.
