Softball: No. 3 Cal Opens NCS Against Newark Memorial

Three days after backing into a co-championship with Livermore in the East Bay Athletic League, the California softball team was given the No. 3 seed for the North Coast Section Division I playoffs.

Cal's win against Carondelet on Thursday, coupled with Livermore's loss to Granada allowed Cal to share the EBAL title with  Livermore. 

The Cowboys earned the automatic NCS bid because it swept the season series with the Grizzlies and would host a potential semifinal game between the two teams.

Cal will host No. 14 Newark Memorial on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
