SRVUSD Superintendent To Retire This Summer

Rick Schmitt has been in education for 40 years, San Ramon Valley Unified School District said.

SAN RAMON VALLEY, CA — San Ramon Valley Unified School District Superintendent Rick Schmitt announced Wednesday plans to retire in June. Schmitt has worked in schools across California for 40 years.

Schmitt said in a letter to the schools community that his time at SRVUSD was "an exceptional capstone" to his career.

"I am most grateful for the personal and professional relationships that I have been able to form with district managers, teachers, classified staff, the Board of Education, parents and community leaders," he said in the release. "Together we have been able to lead an already excellent school district to greater heights through some of the most trying times imaginable.”

SRVUSD Board of Education President Greg Marvel noted Schmitt came onboard while the district was recovering from the Great Recession. The superintendent helped create additional services for students, Marvel said.
