Accused Tagger Arrested After San Ramon Police Release Photos

Police said San Ramon resident Jacob Leigh, 18, turned himself in Thursday.

SAN RAMON, CA — After San Ramon police reached out to the public this week in an effort to find an accused tagger who had defaced property around the city, they got their man. San Ramon resident Jacob Leigh, 18, was arrested Thursday after turning himself into police.

The investigation began Sunday when officers responded to several reports of racially insensitive graffiti in the area surrounding Camino Ramon and Crow Canyon Road. The graffiti was spray-painted on the outside of several commercial buildings, as well as on an ATM, according to the SRPD.

By Monday, the SRPD obtained several high-quality images of the suspected tagger from video surveillance located inside the vandalized ATM at 2190 Camino Ramon, according to police. The images were eventually released to the public in an effort to help identify the suspect.

"The response from the San Ramon Community was overwhelming," the SRPD reported. After receiving numerous tips, detectives identified the suspect as Leigh. Detectives served a search warrant at his home Thursday morning and seized several pieces of evidence, but Leigh was not there, according to the SRPD.

However, by early afternoon Leigh arranged to turn himself in and was later booked into Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of a hate crime and multiple vandalism charges. His bail was set at $40,000, according to the SRPD.
