Lanes Reopen on I-680 in Danville Following Crash Involving CHP Motor Officer

The officer, who was riding a motorcycle, suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

Update:

All lanes have reopened on Interstate Highway 680 following a crash in Danville this morning involving a California Highway Patrol officer in the agency’s San Jose division, according to the CHP. The officer, who was riding a motorcycle, suffered moderate injuries but CHP Officer John Fransen said it looks like he’ll be able to fully recover.

“We’ll take moderate injuries over major injuries any day,” Fransen said. “As long as he’s okay, that’s all we care about.” Officers responded shortly before 9 a.m. to a report of a motorcyclist down in the northbound lanes of Highway 680 north of El Cerro Boulevard, according to Fransen and a CHP dispatcher.

As of around noon, Fransen said investigators were still working to determine what led to the crash. Initial reports indicated a big-rig truck clipped the officer, but there were also reports of a collision that occurred on the road just before the officer crashed.

“We’re still waiting to find out exactly what happened,” Fransen said.
