Why Cita Education

I decided to move to the Bay Area. I worked at the top two education enrichment centers in the area, then decided to start Cita Education to provide an alternative to parents and students, to create a place where students want to to learn by their own motivations.

I felt conflicted teaching at the two centers, particularly at the center in San Ramon. I dislike exam prep culture, while enjoying teaching the students, sharing my knowledge, and experiences with them. To make their lives better, I sometimes did Russell Peter impersonations. I also tried to add my values beyond teaching them the curriculum, for example sharing with them career planning, and explorations from an early age. I also had them do Fermi Problems from time to time.

I also saw how the students dislike most of the experiences but felt that they had to go through the training to go to better colleges. For examples, they were being yelled at by the director, and being video taped in the classrooms and in the hall way.  They were also tying their self esteem to even quiz scores at the center.  I thought of starting my own center for a few years.  After summer of 2012, I decided I wanted to do something for the students.  Hence,  without much planning, I started Cita Education
