📰 News we're reading

• Boy struck in crosswalk near Santa Rosa school remains hospitalized as police continue investigation (pressdemocrat.com) — Santa Rosa police are still investigating the crash that critically injured a 9‑year‑old boy in a Yulupa Avenue crosswalk near Village Elementary School, with the child remaining hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators are reviewing surveillance possibilities and signal use while confirming the driver showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.

• Free STEM kit lending library available for students in Sonoma and Mendocino counties (norcalpublicmedia.org) — Teachers in Sonoma and Mendocino counties can now borrow high‑value STEM kits for free from Sonoma Clean Power's customer center in downtown Santa Rosa, keeping them for eight to nine weeks at a time. The program, run with the CTE Foundation, gives students hands‑on experience with electricity, circuits, and diagnostic thinking while stretching limited classroom budgets.

• Sonoma Valley Democrats endorse Sonoma mobile home protection ordinance; will send formal notice to City Council (sonomanews.com) — Sonoma housing advocates are pushing a tougher mobile home protection ordinance, citing closure threats already seen in Santa Rosa and other Sonoma County cities. While Santa Rosa isn't the focus, its experience is used as a warning as Sonoma Democrats line up behind a resident-drafted law to better shield seniors and low‑income park residents from displacement.
