1. State Street Master Plan Vote Set for Tuesday (keyt.com) — Santa Barbara City Council is set to introduce the long-awaited State Street Master Plan on Tuesday, shaping downtown between Gutierrez and Sola for the next 50 years. The proposal adds wider sidewalks, divided paths for shuttles, bikes and pedestrians, and retractable bollards, with a final adoption vote expected in mid-September and multimillion‑dollar block-by-block costs ahead.

2. Santa Barbara City College app aims to unite students through campus events - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — Santa Barbara City College students now have a new neoQuad app to find campus events, navigate buildings, and connect with clubs in one place. Created by two local engineers, the pilot aims to revive post‑pandemic campus life, boost mental health, and improve retention by making it easier for SBCC students to discover and attend in‑person activities.

3. Santa Barbara Unified sees an increase in literacy proficiency following new universal screener - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — Early literacy scores are rising for Santa Barbara Unified's youngest students after the district piloted a universal screener in grades K-2 and began expanding it to grades three through six. Teachers say the mCLASS platform's quick, detailed data helps them spot reading challenges sooner, tailor small-group instruction, and better prepare local kids for junior high and high school success.

4. UCSB to lead new national network for remote materials research (santamariatimes.com) — UC Santa Barbara has secured a $20 million National Science Foundation grant to anchor a new national network of remotely operated materials research labs. From UCSB's OASIS facility, the COAST PCL project will use AI and robotics so scientists nationwide can run polymer and soft-material experiments here on the Central Coast, potentially advancing medicine, water purification, electronics, and more.
