2. Notice of Recruitment:Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District Hearing Board (independent.com) — Santa Barbara County's Air Pollution Control District is recruiting for an open seat on its Hearing Board, which meets in Santa Barbara and Santa Maria to rule on air quality permits and variances. Local attorneys, or qualified public members if no attorney applies, can submit applications by September 30 for interviews in Santa Barbara on October 15.
3. Police Investigating After Man Found Fatally Injured Along Santa Barbara Waterfront (noozhawk.com) — A man was found fatally injured Thursday evening in Chase Palm Park along the Santa Barbara waterfront, prompting a major police response and ongoing investigation. Officers and medics tried to save him before he died at Cottage Hospital, and detectives have cordoned off part of the park while asking the public to avoid the area as they gather more information.
4. Prep roundup: Santa Barbara defeats San Marcos in girls tennis (keyt.com) — Santa Barbara High's girls tennis team topped rival San Marcos 11-7, while local standouts from Dos Pueblos, Ventura, Buena, Laguna Blanca and others turned in big performances across tennis, flag football and volleyball. 5. Santa Barbara County accepting applications for Coastal Resources Mitigation Fund grants (ksby.com) — Santa Barbara County is now accepting applications for its Coastal Resources Mitigation Fund, which supports projects that protect and enhance coastal resources affected by offshore oil and gas activity. Local public agencies and nonprofits can apply by November 23, 2026, and are invited to attend virtual workshops on September 29 and October 1 to learn how to strengthen proposals.
