Santa Barbara, Show Us How You Rach!
The Santa Barbara Symphony is teaming up with Pianos on State, organized by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative, for #RachOnState—a playful community-wide piano and social media challenge inspired by Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 2.
The challenge kicks off October 1 at 5 PM at Piano #4, Anapamu & State Street, where Maestro Nir Kabaretti will show Santa Barbara how he “Rachs.”
Want to join in? Find a Pianos on State painted piano and make Rachmaninoff your own. Play a favorite Rachmaninoff passage—or put your own spin on one—then record your performance and share it on Instagram (tag @SBSymphony) or Facebook (tag @SantaBarbaraSymphony). Be sure to tag us and use hashtag #RachOnState. Classical, jazzy, dramatic, funny, beginner or virtuoso—there’s no wrong way to Rach.
And there’s even more reason to play: five lucky participants will each win a pair of tickets to the Santa Barbara Symphony’s Season Opening concert, Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto (October 24 & 25), where they’ll hear GRAMMY Award-winning pianist Michelle Cann show Santa Barbara how she Rachs at the Granada Theatre!
On October 2, The Symphony joins Mas(q)parade for a whimsical piano performance parade from 5:30–8 PM! Catch a lineup of dynamic acts popping up at Pianos on State, including our own Noelle Hadsall at 6-6:15 PM on Piano #3 (State & Victoria). She’ll Rach with Rachmaninoff, swing into Bach, and finish with “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” from Phantom of the Opera.
