2 Arrested After Stolen Car And DUI Crash, CHP Says

Two men took off running into the woods after hitting a Watsonville man while driving through the Santa Cruz Mountains crash, CHP said.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Two men were arrested in Santa Cruz County early Thursday morning after running away from the scene of a crash involving a stolen car, the California Highway Patrol said.

Marco Ochoa Gonzalez, 25, of Manteca was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen car, hit-and-run, driving under the influence and resisting arrest, CHP said in a news release. Albert J. Blanco, 38, of San Jose was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen car and resisting arrest.

Ochoa Gonzalez was driving an Infinity north around 5 a.m. on Highway 17 when he unsafely and illegally made a U-turn at Vine Hill Road, due to his state of intoxication, CHP said. He hit a 49-year-old man from Watsonville driving a Hyundai southbound, CHP said.

CHP officers arrived to find two men running off into the woods. A nearby resident contacted CHP after spotting Ochoa Gonzalez and Blanco in their bushes, CHP said.

A 30-year-old Boulder Creek woman in the Infinity stayed at the scene and was hospitalized with minor injuries, CHP said.

The crash remains under investigation.
