2 Firefighters Injured Battling Santa Cruz County Blaze

The injuries resulted from a falling tree.

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- Two firefighters were injured this morning battling a two-acre vegetation fire in the area of Eureka Canyon near Buzzard Lagoon Road in Corralitos in Santa Cruz County.

The injuries resulted from a falling tree, and the firefighters were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospitals for further treatment, Cal Fire said. No information was immediately available on the extent of their injuries.

More than 50 firefighters responded to the fire, which began around 2:30 a.m. and is 50 percent contained. Ground crews and one helicopter will remain at the scene throughout the day. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
