BACKGROUND
On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Santa Cruz Police Department Officers were dispatched to the Super Silver Jewelry store in the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue for a call of a commercial burglary. Responding officers discovered the front window of the business had been smashed and several items of jewelry had been stolen. Officers searched the business and discovered the suspect had already fled the scene. The total loss to the business is still be tallied, but it is estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.
UPDATE
On April 7, 2021 the Santa Cruz Police Department requested the assistance of the community to help solve this case. A community member quickly responded notifying police officers they recognized the suspect. Patrol Officers completed further investigation into the suspect’s identity and confirmed the suspect as 34 year-old Gregory Richard Burros, a Santa Cruz County resident.
On Thursday, April 8, 2021 at approximately 10:00 a.m. officers of the Santa Cruz Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing Team spotted a vehicle in the 100 block of Doyle Street believed to be associated with Burros. NPT Officers surveilled the vehicle for a period of time, ultimately contacting and arresting Burros.
Santa Cruz Police Detectives are currently looking into possible connections between Burros and any other burglaries in the immediate area.
