4 Displaced In Fire At Monterey Condo Complex

Four people were displaced following a fire at a Monterey condominium complex on Friday night.

MONTEREY, CA — Four residents in the city of Monterey were displaced from their condos on Friday night after a fire broke out in the parking lot underneath the building.

Firefighters from the Monterey Fire Department and the Seaside Fire Department responded to the fire in the 500 block of Ramona Court at about 11 p.m.

Smoke was seen coming from the condominium complex, and residents were evacuated. Firefighters determined the origin of the flames was a storage space in the parking area below the residences, according to a news release from the Monterey Fire Department.

The fire was extinguished, and the cause was under investigation as of Saturday, the fire department's statement said.

The flames were controlled before they could spread to residential units, but damage from the fire's smoke and firefighters' forced entry to ensure all residents evacuated caused the units to be declared temporarily uninhabitable.
