Earlier this year, the County Board of Supervisors allocated a portion of its Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds to assist lower- income tenants renting housing in unincorporated Santa Cruz County, who have lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and are in arears on their rent and/or utility payments. This Program is being implemented through two local non-profit agencies: Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. (CAB) and Families in Transition (FIT).
This Program is open to renters in the unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County whose gross annual household income is at or below 80 percent of area median income (for a single-person household, it may not exceed $74,350 per year). This assistance may pay for qualified applicants’ unpaid or partially paid rent and utility payments going back to April 1, 2020, up to $10,000 per household. Income losses must be due to COVID-19-related factors. Landlords will need to provide a W-9 and lease documentation to complete the application.
