Alleged Gang Member On Parole Busted With Gun, Cocaine In Santa Cruz County

A county task force was responding to Watsonville streets after gang-activity complaints from residents.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – A known gang-member was arrested in Watsonville Saturday night after a compliance check revealed him to allegedly be in possession of illegal weapons and drugs, according to police.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Gang Task Force responded to the area of Grant and Union streets on reports from residents of gang activity.

Agents said they spotted known Norteno gang participant Enrique Ramos, 33, in the 100 block of Grant Street standing next to the driver's door of a parked car.

According to police, Ramos was on parole and probation and was detained in order to conduct a probation check.

Inside the vehicle, agents discovered a .40-caliber semi-automatic firearm along with an extra loaded magazine. While searching Ramos, agents also allegedly found 1.1 grams of cocaine in his jacket pocket.

Ramos was arrested and taken to the county jail were he was arrested on suspicion of several weapons and drug-related offenses.
