SANTA CRUZ, CA —Santa Cruz residents are being asked to help seniors in assisted and skilled nursing facilities by making Mother’s Day, spring and Thinking of You cards for delivery through I-You Venture and Family Service Agency. The groups said residents in care facilities are often lonely and isolated, and that a card can help brighten their day.
The call for volunteers is open to groups, schools and individuals, according to the announcement. Organizers said the project is meant to remind seniors that they are not forgotten and to give community members a simple way to connect with residents.
The announcement states, "Residents in care facilities are often lonely and isolated and a card can help brighten their day." It also says, "Everyone loves to receive mail, and this is a way to help put a smile on their face and lets them know they’re not forgotten." Organizers added, "This is a great project for groups, schools and individuals!"
In addition to cards, the announcement includes suggestions for items that may help with stress and loneliness. Those donation suggestions include crossword puzzles, word search books, adult coloring books and crayons.
Cards and items can be dropped off at FSA/I-You Venture, 104 Walnut Ave., #208, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, or at the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center, Attn: FSA, 1740 17th Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The requested deadline for delivery is March 28, according to the announcement. For more information, contact I-You Venture at 831-459-8917.
