MONTEREY, CA — Monterey police are searching for a suspect after a man was stabbed in an apparently unprovoked attack on July 2, authorities said Thursday.
Police said officers were dispatched at about 9:32 p.m. on July 2 to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after a victim arrived with stab wounds.
The victim was later transferred to Natividad Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The victim told investigators he was walking in the 2300 block of North Fremont Avenue when an unknown man confronted him and attacked him with a pocketknife for no apparent reason.
The victim said he did not immediately realize he had been stabbed and left the area before a family member drove him to the hospital.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic man wearing a red jacket.
Detectives canvassed the area, interviewed witnesses, and collected video evidence, but the suspect has not been identified.
