SALINAS, CA — A teenager was fatally shot Saturday morning in East Salinas in what police say was a "heartbreaking" accident.
Officers responded to a residence on Atlantic Street about 8 a.m. where the shooting was reported. The teen, whose age and gender weren't specified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"At this time, there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the surrounding community, and preliminary findings suggest this was a tragic accident," police said Saturday afternoon, calling it a "heartbreaking event."
