Aptos Man Killed In Car Crash

The crash happened near Corralitos Sunday night.

A 36-year-old Aptos man succumbed to his injuries in a solo car crash on Sunday night near Corralitos, an unincorporated Santa Cruz County community, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, the man was driving a red 1990 Mazda coupe east on Freedom Boulevard, east of Pleasant Valley Road, CHP officials said.

He drove the vehicle off the roadway, crashed into multiple mailboxes and rammed into a metal gate. The coupe then went up a dirt hill and then turned over on its roof, according to the CHP.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the CHP. Investigators suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, CHP officials said.

Emergency crews airlifted the driver to a San Jose hospital for major injuries and he later died there, according to the CHP.

His name is not being released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office until his next of kin has been notified of the death.
