Audio Report: Bay Area CHP Officers Asked to Help Santa

Listen in as a police dispatcher asks officers working Christmas eve to keep an eye out for the jolly old elf.

Listen to the Christmas eve radio traffic from the California Highway Patrol in the Bay Area. Officers working on Dec. 24 were told to keep an eye out for St. Nick and his team during a very different type of “be on the lookout” advisory.

“Pilot is an older white male adult, long white hair, white beard, rosy cheeks and a twinkle in his eye. He’s wearing a red jack with white trim...”

The broadcast to officers, put out at about 11:21 p.m., is a tradition in Northern California, according to a CHP spokesperson.

California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Hill said, “This is kind of a tradition for our Golden Gate Communications Center. We typically broadcast this every year as time allows. Something to bring a little holiday cheer to our dispatchers and officers who have to be away from their loved ones during the holiday.”
