Banana Slugs, Summer Happenings on Campus
UC is out for a while, but there's plenty going on at the campus

Santa Cruz Chancellor George Blumenthal lists the year's accomplishments including astronomy professor Sandy Faber, social documentary teacher Renee Tajima-Pena winning a Guggenheim Fellowship and earth and planetary scientist James Gill having an underwater volcano named for him.

Students also won some honors, including Paul Abumuv, who won a $10,000 grant to develop software to help teachers in grading.

All that, and the controversial banana slug mascot celebrates its 25th year. They should have brought in John Travolta for that one.
There's a big garden sale at Norrie's Gift Shop at the UCSC Aboretum this weekend, for father's day. Gifts are 20--75 percent off. It's a good chance to pick up some great plants. Not included, however, are books, succulent dish gardens and succulent wreaths.
