I'm not sure how I feel about this, our girls (a compilation team of 98 players from SC Jaws, Mid County Surf and SC Breakers, coached by Shari Scruton) participated in the last sand soccer tournament of the summer -SF Pro Am, and won all games, including the championship.
Normally that is very exciting but the girls played in a combo u14-u15 bracket where all other teams were 99s, a year younger. Now some 99 teams can seriously give our team a run for the money, but not so much at this tournament. However, since we were an eclectic group of 9 girls from all over the county, you never know how the team will mesh. My hat is off to the coach Shari Scruton, for a great job keeping the girls playing strong and managing the subs, which I feel is one of the most difficult aspects of sand soccer, a game played in 3 eleven minute periods, very different from 2 45 min halves!
To the credit of the girls, they came to this tournament and played their hardest, no matter what the level of competition (sometimes players regress when their opponents aren't as skilled), but the SC Crashers did not! They dominated every game and didn't loose their heads in the last game (we did loose in the championship game last time we played sand soccer in SF!). I believe everyone scored on the team and some player's score tallys went to double digits! The girls who participated as the SC Crashers in the 7th Annual SF Pro Am Tournament were: Kylie from SC Jaws, Carmen from SC Jaws, Linnea Blaustein from MC Surf, Hannah Maritn from MC Surf, Winnie Scruton from MC Surf, Mikayla Reed from SC Breakers, Lauren Winkler from SC Breakers, Simran Singh from SC Breakers, and Keeley Christiansen from SC Breakers.
Eh, who am I to say what is worthwhile and what isn't! The girls had another opportunity to play soccer, on the beach no less, and played hard - a win is a win is a win! All opportunities to play soccer are helpful to their development and to build a 14/15 year old's confidence is always a good thing!
